Why Recycling
Every year, the $1.3 trillion global fashion industry churns out more than 100 billion garments, the vast majority of which are made by extracting new raw materials like cotton and oil (which is used to create synthetic materials like nylon and polyester). The global fashion industry has long been under scrutiny for its negative impact on the environment. From water pollution to textile waste, the traditional linear model of “take, make, and dispose” is no longer sustainable . To mitigate these environmental consequences, a new movement has emerged, known as the circular fashion economy. At Fabrecreate, we further the concept of circular fashion, advocating through our products the circular economy’s environmental benefits, and how it can contribute to a greener future for our planet, aligning with the goals of other triple-bottom line focused organizations.
One of the innovations being encouraged and promoted is: circular fashion, which is a term that refers to clothing that is designed, made, and used in accordance with the principles of the circular economy. The circular economy is a business model that is anchored in the triple-bottom line framework, and that seeks to eliminate waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use, and regenerate natural systems. In contrast to the traditional linear economy, which follows a “take- make-dispose” pattern, the circular economy aims to create a closed loop of production and consumption, where nothing is wasted and everything is reused, repaired, or recycled. Circular fashion applies this logic to the fashion industry, by creating clothing that is durable, versatile, and recyclable, and by promoting practices that reduce the environmental and social impacts of fashion.
